Kushavarta Ghat in Haridwar

Out of all the Ghats situated on the banks of river Ganges in Haridwar, Kushavarta Ghat is considered one of the most sacred of all. All rite and rituals including the Shraddha rites for the departed souls are performed at this Ghat where thousands of devotees and pilgrims take holy dip in Ganges and pray for their ancestors every day. Kushavarta Ghat is constructed by the valiant Maratha queen Ahilyabai Holkar during the early 18th century.

Mythology

According to the Hindu mythology, Kushavarta Ghat was visited by great ancient sage Dattatreya who used to spend time at the Ghat often and even meditate at this place. It is believed it is at this Ghat Dattatreya performed penance and stood up on one leg for thousands of years to please the Almighty.      

How to Reach Kushavarta Ghat

Pilgrims and devotees can easily reach Kushavarta Ghat as it is located just 500 meters south of Har Ki Pauri. It is located very near to the Vishnu Ghat. Nearest railway station is Haridwar railway station which is only 1km from the Kushavarta Ghat. Nearest airport is situated at Jolly Grant in Dehradun which is located 37 kms from Haridwar.
