Staying Inside Corbett Tiger Reserve

Corbett Tiger Reserve is a very popular place in Uttarakhand.  Many tourists visit Corbett National Park to witness wildlife. It is the best destination to witness Tigers, Leopard, or many other animals and some beautiful bird species. 

Jungle safari in Corbett National Park is the most loved activity by tourists. This is the best place to spend your vacation on the lap of nature with some beautiful birds and animals. Have an adventurous experience by staying inside the park which is the home of many wild animals. There are many Forest Rest Houses or Inspection Bungalows for you to stay inside the park and witness some wild animals.

These Bungalows and Forest Rest House were built 100 years ago. They were made for the forest officers who were required to camp inside the forests where no other alternative accommodation was available. So forest rest house was created for them to stay in the night after a long day of patrolling and forest-related works. Their work is to protect and management of forests and wildlife.

There is no private property permitted inside in Corbett National Park just like any other national park in India. All the Forest Rest House are regulated by the government.

Sonanadi Zone

1) Halduparao Forest Rest House

Halduparao FRH (New Building)

Halduparao Forest Rest House is built in 1890 which is situated at a distance of 50 km from Kotdwar. It is located on the right bank of river Palain at a height of 385m, It offers a beautiful view of the river and the forest to the visitors. The entry gate is through the Vatanvasa gate followed by a 10km drive on a forest road. It provides 2 rooms with a double bed and a kitchen.


2) Rathuwadhab Forest Rest House

Rathuadhab FRH

Rathuadhab forest rest house was built in 1899, it is situated on the banks of Mandal river and located at a distance of 65 km from Kotdwar. It offers a majestic view of the river and the nearby village. It has 2 rooms with a double bed and a kitchen. The entry gate is through the Vatanvasa gate.


3) Morghatti Forest Rest House

Morghati forest rest house is situated in a dense mixed forest at a distance of 40 km from Kotdwar. It is situated at a beautiful site, and this is the best site for bird watchers. The entry gate is through the Pakhro gate. It has 2 rooms with a double bed and a kitchen.


4) Mundiyapani Forest Rest House

Mundiyapani forest rest house is situated amidst the dense mixed forest at a distance of 40 km from Kotdwar. It was established in 1903 at a height of 547 m and a great site for bird watchers. The entry gate is through the Vatanvasa gate. It has 2 rooms with a double bed and a kitchen.

Jhirna Zone

1) Dhela Forest Rest House

Dhela forest rest house is situated in the buffer area of Corbett Tiger Reserve. It was established in 1991 and has a sprawling campus. The village of Dhela close to the FRH lends its name to it. This is the best place to stay in for bird watchers. It is situated at a distance of 18 km from Ramnagar, it has 2 rooms with a double bed and a kitchen available.


2) Jhirna Forest Rest House

Jhirna forest rest house is located on the southern boundary of the Corbett Tiger Reserve and may be approached from the Dhela entry gate. The area has recovered really well and is a testimony of the rejuvenating power of nature. the Vegetation here is drier and mostly shrub.

It was a farming land till the villages (Dhara, Jhirna, and Kothirau) were relocated in 1994 under Project Tiger. After the successful ecological recovery, the area is a favored ground of Wild animals now. It is situated at a distance of 25 km from Ramnagar, it has 2 rooms with a double bed and a kitchen available.

Dhikala

1) Sarapduli Forest House

Sarapduli Forest Rest House

Sarpaduli forest rest house is one of the most beautiful rest houses of Corbett overlooking the Ramganga river. It is situated at Sapaduli which is 30 km from Ramnagar. It was built in 1908, It is preferred by wildlife lover as here one can spot movements of large mammals including tiger and elephants.

Large pools of Mahseer and fish-eating birds like fish eagle, kingfisher, etc may be seen in this area. Ghoral can be sighted on the slopes across the Ramganga. It is also the perfect place to watch crocodiles and birdlife viewing.


2) Gairal Forest Rest House

This rest house can be accessed by a short detour of the Dhangarhi-Dhikala main forest road. The old Gairal forest rest house was built in 1903 and the new forest rest house has 4 rooms and an 8-bed dormitory, the main attraction of this forest rest house is that it is situated on the banks of river Ramganga.

Tourists staying here can experience crystal clear water, a fast-flowing river through the beautiful forests. The crocodile pool nearby offers the opportunity to see the ghadial in the water or basking on the adjoining rocks. The FRH enjoys a tranquil environment of great beauty and is excellent for bird watching.


3) Dhikala Forest Rest House

Dhikala is an easy gateway to various parts of the park. Dhikala forest rest house needs not much introduction if we talk about wildlife tourism in Corbett. The old Forest Rest House at Dhikala is a historic structure, built over a hundred years ago. This well-known tourist destination is located at the edge of Patli Dun valley through which River Ramganga flows in numerous channels. The place offers a panoramic view of the valley with the Kanda ridge in the backdrop.


4) Sultan Forest Rest House

If you head towards Dhikala from the Dhangarhi gate, Sultan is the first Forest Rest House that comes across. Sultan forest rest house was built in 1903 and it is an ideal place for a small group of travelers. It is situated at a distance of 25 km from Ramnagar and it has 2 double bedrooms. This rest house is named after the seasonal stream running through that area called Sultan sot. The adjoining Sal forest patch is one of the densest in the CTR and supports a large number of Deers and Birds.


5) Khinnanauli Forest Rest House

Khinnanauli forest rest house is strategically situated amid the Khinnanauli Chuar, this wonderful forest rest house is an excellent tiger territory. It has been developed recently in order to promote easy tourism to the various parts of the park.

Bijrani

1) Malani Forest Rest House

Malani FRH

Malani forest rest house is built in 1930 and located 12 Kms due northwest of Bijrani at the edge core of the Jim Corbett National Park. It has a KMVN canteen and the Aamdanda gate is the entry point for this forest rest house. This small FRH named after the Malani sot (stream) offers one of the most picturesque surroundings and a quiet ambiance. This forest rest house has 2 rooms of a double bed.

Malani has a lot to offer from most picturesque surroundings and solitude. The game drive to Malani is quite a rewarding experience amidst nature as it's an easy opportunity to watch different mammals and birdlife in their natural habitats.


2) Bijrani Forest Rest House

Bijrani FRH

Bijrani is one of the prominent zones of the Corbett Tiger Reserve. The area of Bijrani was once dedicated to shooting block during the British period. There is a Government forest rest house inside the Bijrani zone that permits night stay in the lap of nature. Bijrani FRH is built in the 1930s which is situated at the edge of the core zone of the Jim Corbett National Park.

This small FRH named after the Malani sot (stream) offers one of the most picturesque surroundings and a quiet ambiance. It has a KMVN canteen and the Aamdanda gate is the entry point for this forest rest house. This is one of the best sites for a peaceful stay and enjoying bird watching. There are 3 types of accommodations available which are Single bed, Double bed, and Four bed. In Bijrani FRH 2 rooms have a single bed, 4 rooms have double beds and 1 room has four beds.
