The Uttarakhand government has allocated Rs 1,000 crore in the 2026–27 state budget for preparations for the Haridwar Kumbh Mela scheduled in 2027. The move is aimed at strengthening infrastructure and arrangements for the major religious gathering.

Along with the Kumbh preparations, the government will also develop infrastructure around 48 temples under the Manaskhand Temple Mala Mission, promoting spiritual tourism across the state.

Uttarakhand has achieved a historic milestone in tourism, with visitor numbers crossing 6 crore for the first time in 2025. According to the tourism department, over 6.03 crore tourists visited the state, the highest since its formation, including a rise in foreign tourists.

Haridwar recorded the maximum footfall with 3.42 crore pilgrims, followed by Dehradun (67.35 lakh) and Tehri (53.29 lakh). Popular destinations like Mussoorie, Nainital, Rishikesh, Kainchi Dham, Chopta, Munsiyari, and Harshil saw heavy tourist inflow.

The government’s focus on enhanced security and tourist safety has played a key role in this growth, further boosting Uttarakhand’s appeal as a major spiritual and adventure tourism hub.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the upcoming Kumbh Mela 2027 in Haridwar presents a significant opportunity for the state on both national and global levels.

During his visit, the Chief Minister offered prayers at Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple and also paid obeisance at the revered Siddhpeeth Hanumangarhi Temple. He performed rituals seeking blessings for the state's progress and the successful, grand, and divine organisation of the Kumbh Mela.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has formally requested a financial grant of Rs 3500 crore from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to support preparations and infrastructure development for the upcoming Haridwar Mahakumbh in 2027.

Tempo Travellers will be operated in Chardham Yatra route, Kumbh area of Haridwar, Mussoorie, Nainital, Champawat, Auli. Currently, the corporation has only ordinary buses available on the hilly areas and Chardham Yatra routes. The operation of these Tempo Travellers will soon be started in various hill districts.

For the convenience of passengers, the Transport Corporation has purchased 20 Tempo Travellers, whose online booking will be started soon. Passengers will be able to get information about time, fare and booking on the corporation's website and mobile app.

Message from Uttarakhand CM regarding Char Dham Yatra

The Chardham Yatra is progressing seamlessly, with comprehensive measures in place for devotee safety and efficient traffic management to ensure a hassle-free experience. The Uttarakhand Police urge pilgrims to disregard misleading news or rumors, reaffirming their commitment to a secure and smooth journey for all.

Offline registration for Chardham Yatra has started from Monday. On the first day, 10419 pilgrims registered in Haridwar, Rishikesh, Herbertpur, Vikasnagar. The registration figure has crossed 22 lakhs including online and offline.

Ahead of the Char Dham Yatra starting on April 30, offline registration began in Haridwar on Monday. 20 counters, including special ones for seniors, the disabled, and foreigners, were set up. Check Char Dham Registration Guide.

As the Char Dham Yatra approaches, Haridwar is ramping up preparations to ensure a safe and seamless pilgrimage. The administration has deployed drones for enhanced surveillance and established dedicated tourist police centers to assist and protect the thousands of devotees expected to visit.

The department has issued a red alert, warning that due to heavy rains in Haridwar, the water level in rivers, drains and streams can rise rapidly, which will also pose a risk of flood.
