Pauri Sightseeing

Pauri is famous for its several tourist spots. You can visit scenic Khirsu, the ancient temple of Ghandiyal Devta located in the vicinity. About 2kms from Pauri is Kandoliya, a beautiful area also surrounded by forests. The Kandoliya Devta temple dedicated to the local god Bhumi-Devta is also located here.

Kandoliya: Kandoliya Temple is dedicated to Kandoliya Devta, located on the Pauri - Lansdowne road amidst picturesque environs. Kandoliya Shiva temple is situated only 2km from the main Pauri town. There is a stadium on top of this mountain which is visited by numerous travelers every year because it is Asia’s highest stadium. The enchanting views of the splendid Himalayan peaks and Gangwarsyun Valley can be seen from here. Kandoliya is also famous for its sunset views.

Lakhman temple at Deval Gaon: There is a thousand year old Lakshman temple, just fifteen minutes drive from Pauri. The temple is located in a small Himalayan village is one where head bows on its own, the grey stone architecture and the short height of the temple tells the age of the stories.

Chaukhamba View Point: Situated only 4kms from main Pauri, Chaukhamba Viewpoint ridge overlooks the splendid Idwal valley and Chaukhamba Peaks. It is one of the prominent places of Pauri because of its mesmerizing scenic vistas. Another pleasing attraction of Chaukhama viewpoint is the dense oak and rhododendron forest of Dwarikhal.

Kyunkaleshwar Mahadev: It is an 8th century temple dedicated to Lord Shiva offering astonishing views of the snow laden Himalayas. The temple is situated in the suburbs of the main town of Pauri. It is believed Adi Shankaracharya raised this historic shrine while his visit to Pauri. The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Shiva accompanied by Goddess Parvati, Ganesha and Karthikeyan.

Khirsu: Khirsu is situated 15kms from Pauri at an altitude of 1700mts above sea level. Khirsu is situated in a tranquil place with numerous oak trees, deodar trees and apple orchards around. Located in the Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand state, Khirsu affords captivating views of the imposing Himalayan range.

Nagdev: Nagdev temple is situated about 3 km. from the hotel Shail shikhar. It is a temple dedicated to the snake god Nag and is located in a dense forest of pine and Rhodendron. While going to the temple, one can even pay a visit to the beautiful observatory that is installed here. From the observatory one can get clear view of some peaks of gigantic Himalayan range. The temple is located on the Pauri-Bubankhal road. One can reach there after a trek of one and half kms.

  • Trekking: There are few small but beautiful treks all around Pauri.
  • Picnic at Khirsu: Located 19 km away from Pauri at an altitude of 1805 meters, Khirsu is a peaceful picnic spot, free from pollution. The ancient temple of Ghandiyal Devta in the vicinity is well worth a visit.
  • Rafting in River Ganga: You can enjoy rafting as a day excursion in River Ganges and come back to Pauri for a cooler accommodation with Himalyan views.
  • Fishing at Pauri: Beas Ghat is a famous fishing spot especially for Mahaseer. Fishing lovers can do a day fishing and enjoy the natural beauty spread all around. Best spot for fishing at Beas Ghat is the Nayar rivulet of the Ganges and March, April, September and October are the best months for fishing.
