Nandi Kund is idyllically situated in the lofty Garhwal Himalayas stretches at an elevation of 3,497 meters to 4,800 meters above sea level in Madhymaheshwar-Kalpeshwar trail. 

The pristine Nandikund lake sprawls over an area of one and a half km. The Nandi Kund is the source of Madhyamaheshwar Ganga River.

Nandi Kund Lake in Madmaheshwar

The lake is surrounded by majestic peaks of which Chaukhamba group of peaks is a treasure trove for the trekkers. One can feel the spine-chilling winds which blow the worries as you gaze into the crystal clear water of the lake. Interestingly, there are old woods which are worshiped by the people as they associate with the Pandavas.

Nandi Kund is often hiked by those having wanderlust. The trail covers Madhyamaheshwar, Kachani Dhar, Kachani Tal, Pandav Sera and Nandi Kund. Rudraprayag is the nearest town from this lake. The best time to visit this place is between May to June and from the middle of August to the end of October.

Temples Nearby:

Shiva “The Destroyer” is worshiped at Madmaheshwar in the form of a navel-shaped lingam. This temple sits high at an altitude of 3,289 metres. The temple features classic north -Indian style architecture.

The enchanting Pandava Valley:

The Pandava Sera Valley is about 3-4 km wide and the locals believe that it was the place where the Pandavas awaited their stay. They dug a canal in this land, cultivated it and transformed the whole area.

Location & How to Reach Nandi Kund Lake

This picturesque place can be easily accessible as Garhwal region is well connected by motorable roads. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport at Dehradun and the nearest railhead is at Rishikesh.

From the holy city of Rishikesh, the entry point, Sagar is about 219 km away. A 22 km trek from Sagar will lead you to Rudranath. From there the hikers have to cover a 10 km trek to Urgram Village, then a 2 km trek to Kalpeshwar and finally trek to Dumak after that you’ll reach Nandi Kund Or you can trek direct to Kalpeshwar and the 2km further for Nandi Kund.
