?2.13 Crore Approved for Helipad Expansion in Badrinath & Kedarnath

The Chief Minister has approved ?2.13 crore for helipad development works in Badrinath Temple and Kedarnath Temple.

  • ?1.74 crore has been sanctioned for platform expansion and approach road improvement at the permanent helipad operated by Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) in Badrinath. Check Badrinath Heli Services.
  • ?39.40 lakh has been approved for security-related works at the helipad owned by Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN) in Kedarnath. Check Kedarnath Helicopter Services.

Badrinath-Kedarnath Committee Proposes Ban on Non-Hindus

The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) has announced a proposal to bar non-Hindus from entering Badrinath and Kedarnath Dhams, along with other temples under its control (including Gangotri and Mukhba in some reports).

  • Only Hindus will be permitted entry to these centuries-old shrines, part of the Char Dham pilgrimage.
  • BKTC president Hemant Dwivedi confirmed that non-Hindus will be prohibited from all temples managed by the committee.
  • The decision will be formalized through a proposal in the upcoming board meeting, citing long-standing traditions.

This applies to multiple shrines under BKTC jurisdiction (around 45 temples).

Snowfall in Uttarakhand Hills, Cold Wave and Dense Fog Continue in Plains

Fresh snowfall has been reported in Hemkund Sahib and Badrinath Dham in Chamoli district, while light snowfall was also recorded in Pithoragarh. The Meteorological Department has forecast light rain and snowfall in high-altitude areas of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh on 18 January, especially above 3,400 metres.

Dense fog is expected over the next three days in parts of Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, Champawat, Pauri, and Dehradun, with cold wave conditions continuing in the plains. In several high-altitude regions, frozen water pipelines have forced residents to melt snow for drinking water. Weather conditions are expected to improve by February.

Cameras and Mobile Phones Banned at Badrinath Temple During 2026 Pilgrimage

Pilgrims visiting Badrinath Dham during the Char Dham Yatra 2026 will not be allowed to carry cameras or mobile phones beyond Singhdwar, located around 100 metres before the temple’s sanctum sanctorum. The decision aims to preserve the sanctity of the shrine and ensure smoother crowd management during the pilgrimage season.

The move was finalized during a review meeting on Char Dham preparations chaired by Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey. He confirmed that a formal order regarding the restriction will soon be issued by the Chamoli district administration.

Uttarakhand Announces Winter Closing Dates for Char Dham Temples

On the occasion of Vijayadashami, Uttarakhand officials announced the winter closing dates for the four Char Dham shrines—Kedarnath Temple, Badrinath Dham, Gangotri Temple, and Yamunotri Temple.

According to the Shri Badri-Kedar Temple Committee, the portals of Kedarnath Temple will close on October 23 (Bhaiya Dooj), while Badrinath Dham will close on November 25, as announced by committee president Hemant Dwivedi. Gangotri Temple will close on October 22, followed by Yamunotri Temple on October 23.

President Draupadi Murmu visits Badrinath Dham

On Wednesday, President Draupadi Murmu made a visit to the Badrinath shrine, marking the second day of her three-day trip to Uttarakhand.

Welcomed at the Army helipad in Badrinath, the president was greeted by Uttarakhand Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (retd), Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and other senior government officials. Engaging in prayers for approximately 25 minutes, she conducted a pooja ritual within the temple premises, as reported by district officials.

Badrinath, Kedarnath temples will close at 4 pm on October 28 due to lunar eclipse

All temples governed by the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee, including the Badrinath and Kedarnath shrines, will observe closure at 4 pm on Saturday due to the lunar eclipse.

The Badrinath and Kedarnath temples are scheduled to reopen during the brahma muhurta after the morning purification puja on Sunday.

Other affiliated shrines affected by the closure include the Shri Narasingh Temple in Joshimath, Second Kedar Madmaheshwar, Third Kedar Tungnath, Shri Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, and Yoga Badri.
