The Chief Minister has approved ?2.13 crore for helipad development works in Badrinath Temple and Kedarnath Temple.

These upgrades aim to strengthen disaster management capabilities and ensure safer, smoother movement of pilgrims during the Char Dham Yatra.

The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) has announced a proposal to bar non-Hindus from entering Badrinath and Kedarnath Dhams, along with other temples under its control (including Gangotri and Mukhba in some reports).

• Only Hindus will be permitted entry to these centuries-old shrines, part of the Char Dham pilgrimage.
• BKTC president Hemant Dwivedi confirmed that non-Hindus will be prohibited from all temples managed by the committee.
• The decision will be formalized through a proposal in the upcoming board meeting, citing long-standing traditions.

This applies to multiple shrines under BKTC jurisdiction (around 45 temples).

Badrinath Dham will reopen for pilgrims on April 23 at 6:15 AM. The announcement came during a Vasant Panchami ceremony at the Tehri king's palace on Friday.

Fresh snowfall has been reported in Hemkund Sahib and Badrinath Dham in Chamoli district, while light snowfall was also recorded in Pithoragarh. The Meteorological Department has forecast light rain and snowfall in high-altitude areas of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh on 18 January, especially above 3,400 metres.

Dense fog is expected over the next three days in parts of Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, Champawat, Pauri, and Dehradun, with cold wave conditions continuing in the plains. In several high-altitude regions, frozen water pipelines have forced residents to melt snow for drinking water. Weather conditions are expected to improve by February.

Pilgrims visiting Badrinath Dham during the Char Dham Yatra 2026 will not be allowed to carry cameras or mobile phones beyond Singhdwar, located around 100 metres before the temple’s sanctum sanctorum. The decision aims to preserve the sanctity of the shrine and ensure smoother crowd management during the pilgrimage season.

The move was finalized during a review meeting on Char Dham preparations chaired by Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey. He confirmed that a formal order regarding the restriction will soon be issued by the Chamoli district administration.

The portals of the Badrinath Shrine were closed for the winter season on Tuesday following traditional rituals. The ceremony was conducted amid chanting of Vedic mantras in the presence of a large gathering of devotees, after which the Chardham deities were moved to their respective winter abodes.

The higher reaches of Uttarakhand witnessed the season’s first snowfall on Wednesday morning, covering the peaks around Kedarnath and Badrinath in a fresh blanket of snow and leading to a sharp dip in temperatures.

The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee president confirmed that all roads leading to Badrinath are currently open and pilgrims can continue their visit safely despite the changing weather conditions.

Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, visited the Badrinath Temple and Kedarnath Temple on Friday, according to shrine authorities.

Ambani offered prayers at the Badrinath shrine in the morning before proceeding to Kedarnath. After performing rituals at both temples, he donated a total of ?10 crore as a contribution to the two shrines.

Badrinath Dham is witnessing record-breaking footfall during the Char Dham Yatra 2025. As of Wednesday, a total of 14,53,827 devotees have offered prayers to Lord Badri Vishal, surpassing last year’s total of 14,35,341 pilgrims, marking a significant rise in pilgrim turnout this season.

On the occasion of Vijayadashami, Uttarakhand officials announced the winter closing dates for the four Char Dham shrines—Kedarnath Temple, Badrinath Dham, Gangotri Temple, and Yamunotri Temple.

According to the Shri Badri-Kedar Temple Committee, the portals of Kedarnath Temple will close on October 23 (Bhaiya Dooj), while Badrinath Dham will close on November 25, as announced by committee president Hemant Dwivedi. Gangotri Temple will close on October 22, followed by Yamunotri Temple on October 23.

The two-day Nar-Narayan Janmotsav began on Wednesday in Badrinath Dham with great enthusiasm. Head priest Rawal Amarnath Namboodri conducted Mahabhishek, Pujan, Bhog, and Aarti for Lord Nar-Narayan’s festival idol on the Narayan Parikrama path, attended by hundreds of devotees. At 9:30 AM, the festival Doli Yatra proceeded to Mata Murti Temple, 2 km away near Mana village, drawing a large crowd of pilgrims.

Despite challenging weather in Uttarakhand, the Chardham Yatra and Hemkund Sahib pilgrimage broke all records, with 41,12,995 devotees visiting by July 28, 2025. Kedarnath led with 14,39,666 visitors, followed by Badrinath (12,05,798), Gangotri (6,62,989), Yamunotri (5,80,433), and Hemkund Sahib (2,23,809). With around 2,000 daily registrations, the growing number of pilgrims reflects their unwavering devotion.

The Badrinath Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) has urged police intervention against individuals spreading misleading information on social media, allegedly charging devotees under the false pretext of offering online darshan or puja services at the sacred Badrinath and Kedarnath temples. The committee has called for strict action to curb such fraudulent activities and protect the faith and trust of pilgrims.

The monsoon is in full force in Uttarakhand, yet the devotion for the Char Dham Yatra remains unwavering. Despite heavy rains, cloudbursts, landslides, and overflowing rivers, pilgrims continue to flock to the sacred sites, including Hemkund Sahib. Data up to July 6 shows 13,254 visitors, with 5,892 at Badrinath Dham, 2,151 at Shri Hemkund Sahib, 3,124 at Kedarnath Dham, 1,983 at Gangotri, and 104 at Gaumukh, reflecting the enduring faith amidst challenging weather.

The Uttarakhand Cabinet has greenlit the building of iconic Lord Vishnu-related structures, including the Sudarshan Chakra, at the Badrinath temple complex, aligning with the master plan to revitalize the sacred Himalayan site.

Lord Kartik Swami’s Badrinath Yatra begins from Krounch Mountain, with plans to visit several pilgrimage sites, including Badrinath. Devotees have gathered at the Krounch Mountain shrine to participate in the yatra.

On Tuesday, 20 May, 20,227 devotees had darshan. Till now, a total of 2 lakh 74 thousand 562 devotees have had darshan of Lord Badri Vishal.

According to the tourism department, more than 5.50 lakh devotees have visited the four Dhams from 30 April to 11 May. Out of these, 2.27 lakh devotees visited Kedarnath Dham, 1.17 lakh in Badrinath, 94251 in Gangotri, 1.13 lakh in Yamunotri.

Chardham Yatra is being conducted uninterruptedly in the state. So far more than 4 lakh devotees have visited the Dhams. Heli services for Shri Kedarnath Dham are also fully operational.

Chief Minister Dhami said that all preparations have been completed for the Char Dham Yatra 2025. He told, “The doors of Yamunotri and Gangotri will open on 30 April. Kedarnath Dham will open on May 2 while Badrinath Dham will open on May 4.

The Chief Secretary inspected the master plan works going on in Badrinath. During this, he inspected the Arrival Plaza, Civic Amenity Center, Badrish and Shesh Netra Lake, River Front and Hospital. He directed the implementing agency to complete the Civic Amenity Center, Arrival Plaza and Tourism Management Center by May. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday announced that senior citizens of Uttarakhand aged 60 and above, ex-servicemen, their wives, and widows of ex-servicemen will be offered a free pilgrimage to Badrinath starting this year.

During this year's Chardham Yatra, filming videos and creating social media reels will be strictly prohibited within a 30-meter radius of the Badrinath and Kedarnath temple premises. The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) is set to implement this rule to ensure better crowd management and maintain the sanctity of the temple areas.

Additionally, strict action will be taken against individuals spreading misinformation on social media. The use of mobile phones for video recording or making reels within the restricted zone will not be permitted under any circumstances.

Registration for Chardham Yatra has started from 20 March 2025. It will be mandatory for the devotees to provide Aadhar card details for registration. Heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand has triggered landslides, leading to road blockages and significant disruptions. Villages have been cut off, highways blocked, and the pilgrimage to Adi Kailash has been suspended. One casualty has been reported in Chamoli district. Authorities are actively working to clear the blocked roads and manage the aftermath of these natural disasters.

Centre has approved the construction of a tunnel at Pagal Nala stretch on Badrinath Highway which is a frequent landslide zone since 1999.

As the Char Dham Yatra is gaining momentum, over 1.58 lakh pilgrims have visited Badrinath Dham this year since it opened on 12 May 2024. Yesterday, 18685 pilgrims visited Badrinath.

The Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand is set to commence on May 10, and even before its initiation, a record-breaking number of devotees have registered. According to the tourism department report, 494,129 registrations have been recorded for Kedarnath, 414,260 for Badrinath, 265,110 for Gangotri, 243,982 for Yamunotri, and 21,804 for Hemkund Sahib.

During the last six months of the yatra season, the Badri Kedar Temple Committee generated a revenue of Rs 70 crore. This surge in pilgrim numbers marks the highest recorded footfall to date.

On Wednesday, President Draupadi Murmu made a visit to the Badrinath shrine, marking the second day of her three-day trip to Uttarakhand.

Welcomed at the Army helipad in Badrinath, the president was greeted by Uttarakhand Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (retd), Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, and other senior government officials. Engaging in prayers for approximately 25 minutes, she conducted a pooja ritual within the temple premises, as reported by district officials.

All temples governed by the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee, including the Badrinath and Kedarnath shrines, will observe closure at 4 pm on Saturday due to the lunar eclipse.

The Badrinath and Kedarnath temples are scheduled to reopen during the brahma muhurta after the morning purification puja on Sunday.

Other affiliated shrines affected by the closure include the Shri Narasingh Temple in Joshimath, Second Kedar Madmaheshwar, Third Kedar Tungnath, Shri Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, and Yoga Badri.
