Osla Village in Har ki Dun Trek

Lying across the gushing stream, Osla is the last village in Har ki Dun valley and is untouched by civilization. The people here are simple, warm, and friendly. Walk around the village, talk to the locals, and you will inevitably be offered a cup of tea.

Cattle rearing and farming are important sources of livelihood in Osla. The village is self-sufficient. The village temple dedicated to Someshwar devta (a form of Lord Shiva) resembles the wooden houses and has interesting carvings. You can stay for a day here; the villagers will be more than happy to host you.

Hiking : Stroll around across the beautiful village and enjoy the calmness of the mighty Garhwal Himalayas with the gentle sound of the river stream accompanying you.

Mythology about Osla :

Osla lies in the valley of the majestic Swargarohini Peak. It is believed that Yudhisthir of the Mahabharata was sent to heaven with the dog from this peak. The ancestors of the people of this region have great influence of the characters of the Mahabharata. The ancestors of this area and its surroundings were said to be under the reign of the Kauravas and Pandavas, the mythological royal warriors and kings in the epic Mahabharatha.

Location & How to Reach Osla Village

Osla village is located in Govind National Park of Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. Osla is situated on a trekking distance of 12 kms from nearest road head Taluka village and comes across the way to Har ki Dun trek. 

The nearest road connecting to other states is at Sankri. Buses and taxis are available from Delhi and cities to Dehradun and direct morning buses to Sankri are available at Mussoorie bus stand in Dehradun. The distance between Dehradun and Sankri is about 200 kms. 

From Sankri, you can hire a jeep/taxi to Taluka or start your trek from Sankri itself. Sharable cab from Sankri to Taluka are also available. The nearest railway station is Dehradun Railway Station and the nearest airport is Jolly Grant airport. Buses and for Sankri leave early in the morning. So be sure to arrange the timings accordingly.
