Jolly Grant Airport also known as Dehradun Airport, is the only Airport situated in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand state. Situated 25km east of Dehradun city, Jolly Grant Airport is nestled in the foothills of Himalayas. After the extension of the runway of Jolly Grant Airport by Airports Authority of India, it is now able to accommodate bigger aircraft like Airbus A320s, Boeing 737s. Jolly Grant Airport started commercial operations from 30th March 2008. Jolly Grant Airport is a domestic airport which mainly serves Delhi and Chandigarh. The airport covers a total land area of 42.08 acres. The Jolly Grant runway is approximately 7,000 ft long and is adequate for landing and take-off of ATR-72 planes.
The proximity of Jolly Grant Airport with popular places like Dehradun, Mussoorie, Haridwar and Rishikesh enables tourists to fly in to Uttarakhand instead of travelling by rail or by road. The distance from Jolly Grant Airport to Rishikesh and Dehradun can be easily covered in 20 and 40minutes respectively.
