Lakshman Jhula is an iron suspension bridge over the holy river Ganga at Rishikesh. A famous landmark place in Rishikesh, Lakshman Jhula is 450 feet length connecting Pauri district with Tehri district. Lakshman Jhula also offers a panoramic view of river Ganga and Rishikesh city having number of temples.
Lakshman Jhula, one of the most iconic landmarks of Rishikesh, was closed in 2019 after engineers declared it structurally unsafe. Inspections found that the decades-old suspension bridge had weakened and could no longer safely bear heavy pedestrian loads.
For years, Lakshman Jhula served as a vital crossing over the Ganga for pilgrims, locals, and tourists. Its closure caused inconvenience and highlighted the urgent need for a safer alternative to restore connectivity in the area.
A new bridge named Bajrang Setu, is being built in place of Laxman Jhula in Rishikesh.
