Bhairavnath Temple or Bhairon Baba Mandir is situated south of the Kedarnath temple on the eastern hill of the lofty Himalayas of Uttarakhand. The temple is dedicated to Bhairav – the fierce manifestation of Lord Shiva associated with destruction and devastation.
Bhairava is described as Kshetrapal who is the protector of the Kedarnath temple and the whole Kedar valley in the winter when the temple is closed. Pilgrims and devotees who travel all the way to visit Kedarnath temple also pay obeisance at Bhairavnath temple as per the ritual. The temple also offers mesmerizing view of the Himalayas and the verdant Kedar valley.
Bhairav Temple is located in In Kedarnath ( about 800 metre further uphill trek from Kedarnath temple).
The Bhairavnath temple is situated just 1 km from the Kedarnath temple. Pilgrims and devotees have to engage in a moderate trek to reach the temple. Bhairavnath temple can be reached via Gaurikund which is the nearest motorable road which is connected with major cities in Uttarakhand such as Haridwar, Dehradun and Rishikesh. The nearest airport is Jolly Grant airport in Dehradun some 250 kms away while the nearest station is Rishikesh.
