About Rudra Cave Kedarnath

Located one and half kilometers left from the Kedarnath Temple complex, Rudra Cave is an underground meditation cave constructed by the Nehru Mountaineering Institute and is a part of Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam's Guest houses chain. The cave is built at the other end of the Mandakini River and offers amenities for a peaceful spiritual practice at the holy site of Kedarnath.

Rudra Cave is also populary known as Dhyan Gufa.

Features of Rudra Cave

Rudra Cave is five meters long and three meters wide with a height of about 12,250 ft. The cave has been constructed in traditional Garhwali style architecture. The exterior of Rudra Cave is constructed with Himalayan stones and the wooden gate at the entrance completes the architecture beautifully.

The underground Rudra Gufa features all the basic amenities like bed, attached toilet, electricity, CCTV Camera, and a telephone in case of emergencies. An attendant will be present at the cave for 24hours who can be called using the Call Bell present in the cave.

Tea and food is served at specific timings (mentioned in the manual) to the pilgrim staying at Rudra Cave. You get a clear view of the Kedarnath shrine and the Bhairavnath mandir from the cave. The mesmerizing views along with the peaceful solitude of Rudra Cave makes it the perfect place for yoga, meditation, and spiritual practices.

How to book Rudra Cave at Kedarnath?

The booking for the Rudra Gufa meditation cave can be done through Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN). You can book your stay via GVNM’s website. Only one person can stay at the cave at a time. You can book the cave for a maximum of three days and a minimum of 24hrs. If you wish to extend the stay, you need to take special permissions from GMVN.

The cost of one day stay at Rudra Gufa is less than Rs.990.

Procedure after booking Rudra Cave at Kedarnath

After booking via GVNM website, you will be briefed about the process and precautions. You will have to report GVNM Guptkashi two days before the booking date. Here, you will go through a medical check-up which will again be conducted at Kedarnath. You will be allowed to stay at Rudra Cave only if you are physically fit.

Rudra Cave has been the highlight of the media after PM Narendra Modi visited and meditated in the cave on 18th May. He is the second person to stay in the cave after the Jai Shah of Maharashtra.
